I am in the process of planning our upgrade from ESX 2.1.2 to ESX 2.5 in our production environment.

All the current VMs were created using ESX 2.1.2, so do we need to reinstall the VMware Tools in each VM?

If not mandatory, would it be recommended to upgrade the VMware Tools in each guest? (eg, more efficient video/network drivers?)

Thanks,
G

You can get by with out upgrading the tools but it is recommended that you do. What I do when I am going to upgrade ESX is to pull the new tools off the CD and then install the new tools on the client but do not reboot. Then when I upgrade ESX eveything will be ready when it comes back up
