"usb controller initialization failed", WMWare 6.5.2

since yesterday I can no longer use USB within VMWare:

"usb controller initilazation failed".

I have not installed any usb monitoring software.

I use Win XP SP3, all patches.

What can this be?

I restored the system with a version that is 3 days old. Now it works fine again. I have no idea what might have caused the problem.
