Kernel exception when installing VMware Tools

I am running VMware Workstation v.7.0 under Slackware Linux 13 (Linux kernel v.2.6.29).

I have a Win95 guest OS which installed without incident except for the cab file buslogic.mpd

which needed to be installed by hand. However, when I subsequently tried to install VMware

Tools (latest version) for this OS I received the following MS error message

Setup: This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down

Further details: SETUP caused an exception c06d007fh in module KERNEL32.DLL

at 0137bff9a07c...

The Win95 OS is installed from the OEM CD.

There was no VMware error message as far as I could make out.

Does anyone know what might be causing the error, and what can

be done to fix it?

Thankyou.

I have seen that you could install the tools which is good but first you need to know what version of windows 95 you have. The latest one 4.00.950C ?

Then I would try to find all updates for it which could be a problem as this is since a long time not supported any more. Read a bit here: http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/patching/win95/

No chance to get yourself a Windows 98 version ? Should run better but still has the same major problem that it's unsupported by Microsoft for a long time now.

My best wishes to get the most out of it.

I found this thread which is relevant

http://communities.vmware.com/message/1416805#1416805

Using the information provided there I was able to install VMware Tools.

However, as pointed out in the thread, the enhanced graphics driver does

not function (so I have only 16 colour 640x480 resolution). Does anyone

know how to get this working for VMware/Win95?

Thanks Bernd for your helpful reply.

My Windows 95 version is 4.00.950 OEM ie the very first.

I'll see how I go with performing the updates suggested in the link you gave.

I'll post here if I make significant progress.

Best Wishes Smiley Happy
