Install a machine

Hello

I am new to WMware. I have created a machine and i have winxp install cd in cdreade but when

i start the machine it doesnt find the cd. What might be wrong?

Go to EDIT SETTINGS option of and check the option :: connect :: on power on for cd rom i hope u will get ur problem solved

Tx well cd rom is set to autodetect but it doesnt find it.

I have tried both xp and linux install cds.

(the installtion cds are detected outside wmware).

Please let me know ,

Whether you have instaaled guest OSes or yet want to install ? or U have installed and want to access ur Cd-rom

Which version of workstation worksation have u installed ?

if u tell me which VM u want want to install, ishall help u with video tutorials.

Version is Workstation 6.02

I have only installed the workstation and i try to access the cdrom but nothing happens.

Wmware says cdrom is on autodetect but when i start a machine i get message no operation

system found.

Make an ISO of the os you want to install keep it in virtual CD-Rom by browsing , Then Reboot VM,, It will be easy for U

Autodetect doesn't work - if you have more than one CD / DVD drive assign driveletters manually

just pick the correct driveletter with the dropdown menu

Edit Existing VM. Hardware Tab. CD-ROM list item. Under "Connection", specify "Use physical drive". In the combo box, select the drive letter.

Seems my menus are bit different - i did find it though - but all selections are

shaded - i cant change anything... eg virtual machine settings - cdrom are set to autodetect - i can see options to

cchange to use physical drive but its not possible to select it.....

You cannot edit those if the VM is powered on. You must shut down the guest OS and power off the VM.
