I found this very simple solution to a crash VM workstation unrecoverable error - Failed to allocate page for guest RAM. .. .. This error seems to occur when you are using a writeable NTFS file system on a Linux Host (such as using ntfs-3g with Fuse). .. .. I share an ext USB disk with Windows, formatted with NTFS. Mounted in SUSE 10.3 X_64 host. .. .. Anyway the fix is really simple

Failed to allocate page for guest RAM! .. .. Please try to set .. mainmem.UseNamedFile = "false" .. in the vmx. .. Then VMware will not try to store the mem-file on the alien filesystem.

.. Just checked the VMware log files from the failures. It is saying "could not mmap paging file : no such device" and then "failed to allocate page for guest RAM!" .. .. .. That seems to be what is killing it. Is the device name for the paging file maybe something that got set under Windows ... this guest. Does that mean it is trying to pass through to the physical pagefile on the host OS? ..
