Had problem with VMware tool upgrade, I found the following steps that helps with the installation. My problem is with Windows 2003, STD 64.

1. Open registry editor, locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\COM3, and then delete this key.
2. From the Start menu, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
4. Proceed through the wizard, and accept all of the defaults. (COM is reconfigured)
5. Restart the computer.
6. Install Vmware Tools

IPSec wouldn't start in ESX Tips

Posted by ygao Apr 27, 2009 0 Comments

Few times after my VM rebooted, I can't ping the server, even though the NIC and IP are all correct. The problem is that the IPSec isn't starting and you can't restart it, it just time out.

So What you need to do is:

Start => Run
Type
regsvr32 polstore.dll

click OK and start the IPSec service, the server will be pingable after that.
