  • Biography: I have been working as a member of performance engineering @ VMware since July 2007. Prior to that I worked at Dell in Austin for 2 and 1/2 years. At VMware I mostly work on performance related topics concerning Database and Storage. I have presented my findings in white papers and blog articles(posted on VMware website), technical papers in academic conferences and at VMworld.

If you attended VMworld 2009 and listened to Steve Herrod's key note you would have heard him discussing how to make an ESX cluster (he refered to it as a giant computer) as efficient as possible. The key element to achieve this is Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS). DRS uses on one of the most powerful features of ESX - VMotion for balancing workloads across datacenters. Steve called DRS a 'MATCHMAKER' - matching resource requirements of virtual machines with available hardware resources.
