I thought I must share my experience of VMware ESX 3.5/VC2.5 with rest of the community. Here is my little story...

Despite my hesitation, I have installed and configured ESX on totally unsupported systems. IBM X336 and DS400 storage. DS400 is not supported any of the ESX 3 versions. I updated ESX using update manager up till july updates.

I hit wall when my first installation of ESX on x336 server went haywire as when I extended VMFS formatted LUN from SAN. Now I can say with confident "don't do it". It stopped talking to DS400 (SAN) and my two production VM stopped working. I manage to bring those servers but to fix the issues, I have reinstalled ESX and re configured DS400.
