if you don`t develop a native Linux client, please make your existing client run with WINE.

So please work together with the WINE community to make it compatible or add missing API`s to WINE.

see http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=9993

If M$ Office or Adobe Phototshop can run with WINE, it can`t be that hard to to make VI3 Client run with that, too.

As we have seen so many complaints from linux users, i`m sure you will make a lot of your customers happy with that

Not just for Linux users, but Mac users as well.

I would like to see a native version of VI3 client for Linux as well. Crossover office compatable version would be also acceptable; however, native version is preffered.

Well, here's a comment from someone requesting a linux vi client :)

Probably can't be done with just wine. It would probably have to be an interaction between mono and wine, or only mono depending on the code they've used. Unfortunately, mono is way behind on .net.

Also, this has been suggested in several other requests as far as I know. Some even posted the symbols (links to DLL's etc) required to run it. Personally I'd settle for a functional webinterface as well. This would probably get better support from vmware too, as it might solve the issue for multipe OS'es in one go.

is there still no chance to get an VI client for linux?

Is it still impossible to run it unter wine or crossoffice?

I think this is a confession of failure.

Yes still waiting and going crazy for a VI Client. RDPing to the VC every time I want to do something is a pain...

Thanks

you can try to virtualize the client ;)

I have been able to virtualize some apps with ThinApp, and , using Wine in Ubuntu 8.10, run those virtualized apps without any trouble

Have not tried to virtualize the client, but I would think it is possible, and then we can give it a shot in linux

Well, seeing as vCentre for Linux has been announced, I can't see that the client is that far behind - the wait may finally be over. :)

Not going to happen in WINE anytime soon; it does not support many (if not all) Windows-specific network 'tricks' that may seem common nowadays, but are badly documented, proprietary, and hampered by patents owned by Microsoft.

Trying to install a recent version of Vi3 inside WINE is a testament of this; too many errors to list and zero possibility to fix it at the moment, even if you load down WINE with the 'winetricks' for extra program support like fonts, IE, .NET2 and below. It just doesn't work.

A native Vi3 client is required for Linux/Mac clients, we will accept nothing less from the world leader in operating system virtualisation.
It would be unwise to spend extra time and money making WINE run Vi3 specifically, when there are thousands of other programs wanting that same attention; and if Vi3 finally barely runs in WINE what else will be broken in return?.

But in the end it is wrong, a program should not be platform dependant!
I'm sure VMware recognizes the need, and that development is only a matter of time.

Now that would be brilliant!

I have posted this request before but I see no harm in reinforcing it. Please, please give us a native VI client for Linux. I have been running it in a VM and it works but it limits my screen real estate to what I have in the VM (usually full screen). Since I have two monitors that halves my usable space and makes it difficult when working with multiple VM's through the VI client.

So please, please give us a native client.
