Hey there,

Thanks for giving me the error message you're getting.

First, please take a look in the Application and System event logs and see if the error provides more information in there. I searched the MS KB about this error and it seems that that error code is a catch-all for a bunch of different error messages. So a search of the specific error you're getting returns WAY too many results. Maybe some more error text would allow a more refined search.

Also, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling VMware? Has this VMware install been running previous to this crash, or is this a brand new install of VMware?

If VMware used to be working fine, what was the last thing you did on the system before it stopped working?

That'll help for starters. We'll see what we can do with this.

I am receiving the same error message when I try to start the newly installed application. I installed the application using the local administrator account and then tried to open the application for the first time and received the above mentioned error message. Has this been resolved?

Thanks

What version? If 4.0.0 then this may have been addressed in a later release. Some PCs with a serial ATA [SATA] have hit this type of error. I haven't heard any recent reports in the newsgroups so I presume it was fixed.

As user md has already stated, what version of the VMware software are you experiencing this error on?

You can get the exact build/version by going to the HELP menu, and clicking on the About VMware Workstation entry.

Thanks,

Daryll

BNR:

We haven't seen very many reports of this using the latest version of VMware Workstation, but now I can see that there are a couple of reports in here.

After the next version of Workstation comes out, test on your box and let us know here if you're still having the same problem. If there are several users that are suffering from the same problem, then we need to take a closer look at this, by means of filing support requests so the engineering team can look into this.

Please write me an email through my profile if:

1) You're having this problem, and:

2) You've already installed the latest version of VMware Workstation.

I'll look into each case separately.

Thanks for replying, Daryll.

I removed VMware via Control-Panel, and deleted registry entry it seems to have to do with VMware.
Then try to install, but I can not remove this error.
So I make decision to re-installing My WindowsXP.

But.
I notice that I installed Cisco VPN Client Software before installing VMware.
Is there something possibility that Cisco causes this error?

WindowsXP Professional SP1 Japanese
VMware-workstation-4.0.5-6030.exe
Cisco VPN Client Ver 4.0.3(vpnclient-win-msi-4.0.3.C-k9.exe)
MyPC is ...
SONY VAIO Z1X/P Mem:1GB(DDR266)

I'll write you an e-mail if I get same error again after re-installing My WindowsXP.

Hello Daryl,

I installed the latest and greatest build of VM Workstation 4 (6030) and I have the same issues.

I did uninstall and install the older build 5592. Still I am having the same issues.

OS is Windows XP Pro, SP 1. Please help, I need Solaris 9 as on my VM's real bad

Running regsvr32 on 2 of the installed DLLs might help (I don't recall which two, something like vmdbcom.dll and vmappsdk.dll -- e.g. "regsvr32 c:\progra~1\vmware\vmware~1\vmdbcom.dll").

Hi md,

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. This post is for rest of us who have struggled to get the VM working.

After some research I found that my XP installation has a older release of regsvr32.exe. I am guessing it could have been replaced by some older istallation. I am also guessing VMWARE is using regsvr32.exe to register DLL's intead of using the API's regsvr32 is using for DLL registration.

I would check the following.

1. REGSVR32.exe - on XP SP 1 should be Version 5.1.2600, Size 9728 Bytes.
2. On you current installation if you type on the command prompt regsvr32.exe /? , then a pop should be displayed to indicate incorrect parameter. if this does not happen, the event viewer in the system logs will show this error.

Replace REGSVR32 with the correct release.

Bala

Hmmm. The REGSVR32 on my machine is as it should be, but I still got the error. I followed MD's instructions and they worked for my machine. Thanks MD.

Just curious... How did you figure/find this out? I had this problem for months and finally googling picked up on your post which was only a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks,
