Hey all,
I just noticed (and maybe there is nothing wrong with it) that our one and only ESXi server has only 5 accounts. Whereas, our ESX 3.5 servers have 27 users by default.
Can someone please tell me what the default users and groups are for ESXi.
-Jim Roberts
The difference is the ESX 3 has by default service console which is based off a modified version of RHEL 3 - so it will have the usual groups/user that RH creates by defaul - ESX 3i does not have a service console so it will have a reduced number of users/groups - the most critical user is root - this is your administrative login and if you have added it to Virtual Center a user vpxuser should be created - I am not sure about the other three account you have found -

The default users for ESXi are:
root, nobody, nfsnobdy, dcui, daemon, vimuser
The dcui user is used by the console interface. vimuser is used by Virtual Center.
The default groups for ESXi are:
root, localadmin, tty, nobody, nfsnobody, users
