Cannot continue. The microsoft runtime dll installer failed for complete installation.

How can I even try out this program. It obviously has some hidden issues from beta till rc1.

I'm, using winxp sp2, fully patched

Version 5.1(Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_qfe.070227-2300)

Well, I gues I posted a very clean question and I'm getting try this try that

The point is, that I do not have any issues installing other msi packets.

I just upgraded my XP win to sp3 and still the same error.

Can please someone help me really? Or should I move to virtuozzo?

I'm serious, I'm having troubles installing this peace of software. And I guess

it is a catch somewhere inside install procedures or perhaps in registry.

Does anyone really knows what's happening here?

There is no problem installing VMware Server on a fresh Windows XP setup.
You must have some application conflict or configuration issue (if XP is managed by policy).

nice answer, and what would you recommend?

registry cleaner or something?

is this an issue for microsoft forum?

it is funny that I can install other msi application and perhaps there is some "gray" area here.

But some aditional hints would be very helpful

I tried everything from links above and still the same ...

Post/attach all logs related to VMware installation, I'm sure they will give some clues.
There might be multiple ones. Search files by timestamp (time of your installation attempt).

om8000,

Are you trying to install in Safe Mode? Please see the thread Peter_vm recommended up top here. The system is not the same but the information contained in the post may be applicable.

Do any errors appear in your System or Application event logs?

Good luck, John.

!SOLVED !

Ok, ok there are really some troubles considering vcredist and local security policy as you people mentioned before.

I tried some vcredist packages from microsoft. Install of vcredist was successfull, but VMware Server install error stays the same.

So what I have done at the end of all this is:

1. I started install and live it to fail, but iI did not press cancel or ok for stop installing.

2. Now i browsed to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp{AF08C71F-F822-4416-87A9-2BBF5A8A5F12} which was

created during install. And I manually started vcredist_x86.exe. Error message appeared. "The system administrator has policies to prevent this instalation".

This message is not correct. I already have some other vcredist installatiion on my system (from microsoft.com)

Now I have manually started VMWare Server.msi, which was unpacked under the same directory. Success!

Since you could not say that this is Microsoft or VMware issue but local company issue, it would be nice, to include a nice warning message

on how to adjust security policies. It will be a very usefull time saving notice.

But ... the major catch is that I do not have any policies turned on!

Anyway, now I'm successfully running rc1 :)).

Below is my installation log (first run) ... where in the future - should also be a nice little notice

that something with security policy is not ok - and what else can I try.
