(Windows XP)

I'm trying to free disk space on the host. in MyVirtualMachines\SomeVM\, deleted all interim snapshots but still have some big chunks

lying around.

Which ones can I delete?

Windows XP Professional.vmdk 15GB

Windows XP Professinal -000001.vmdk 7GB

Windows XP Professional-000002.vmdk 5GB

Can I just delete -000001.vmdk and -000002.vmdk?

I just found, I need them all.

You can't delete any of them - these are snapshots.
To remove the snapshots commit / remove them using the snapshot manager.

I deleted 2 snapshots with the snapshot manager when the VM was running. During doing this a disk space problem occured - I believe with a question whether to ignore, continue or cancel (not sure though). Anyway after starting the VM next time the snapshots in the SM depiction were gone but it seems the files are still there and the VM nags about the file missing if I move any of them out of the way.

I wondered anyway why a space problem should occur when one is deleting something but that's probably a way snapshots are deleted, don't know.

When a snapshot is committed a new disk is created which contains the contents of the snaphot and his parent.
You therefore need enough free disk space. The maximum size of the disk when using monolithic disks and 2GB when using split disks.

But now, that I don't see any snapshots in SM anymore, how can I get rid of the obviously still "locked" snapshot files?

see Frequently asked questions in the VMware Workstation forum under Q: I want to commit/remove a snapshot, but the Snapshot Manager won't let me. Is there a workaround?
