Questions about vmdk files and RDM

Hi all

1. Do i need to defrag a vmdk file inside the VM or from the ESX ?

2. I have scenario with physical RDM disks, since i want to use vcb i need to change it to virtual, can it be done by disconnecting the LUN and then attaching it again as virtual, will the data not be harmed?

I thanks all who answers.

Hi

1. You should treat the VM just as you would for a physical... So defrag is inside Windows OS . No defrag on the ESX.

2. You can change it both ways... Please see this post. http://communities.vmware.com/message/716298#716298
