sata raid controller compatibility

Hello to all,

I got Asus P5B-VM motherboard with integrated Jmicron sata raid controller with which ESX doesn't work. I bought Promise SATA 300TX2 plus controller which should be compatible (someone here tested it), disabled the integrated controller.

I booted from CD and when the installation comes to the point when it should recognize the controller, it stops. None of the given drivers work. I have ESX 3.5

Can anyone here help?

thanx Jan

There's a suggestion by d5omino on this thread. I have the CD issue on a white box so I use an HTTP install. Basically I have the contents of the install CD copied to a web server and then choose HTTP install and enter the IP address of the web server and folder that the install files were copied to.

Before it asks about drivers, does it ask you which install media you want to use (CD / http / etc)? It may be an issue with the install not being able to properly access the CD-ROM.

I'd have to agree with Dave. If it's gotten to the driver screen, and has not found a driver, then it probably wants to figure out where the media is located. The only option for me here was the usb mass storage, and then the install process continued. It wasn't until it got to the graphical install did it bomb out because it didn't find any storage and/or networking, but in either case, it stated that it couldn't find drives or a compatible nic.

Hello Dave,

yes, one of the last screens there is a question about "Installation method" and menu where you can select one (Local CDROM, Hard drive, NFS image, FTP, HTTP)

when I chose CD it sais "No driver found" (select driver - use a driver disk - back)

and that's all

Finally It WORKS :-). I set up the FTP server on my second comp, copied the content of the instalation CD into it and linked the ESX installation to it.

thanx for help.
