You can do the following

1) copy the contents from CD or ISO to a hard disk.

2) With Microsoft Orca, edit the MSI \vpx\VMware VirtualCenter Server.msi

3) In the table LaunchCondition find the condition VersionNT>=500 and VersionNT<600 and change it to <700.

4) Save the MSI and run the install again.

I had some problems with the license service not starting causing the install to abort. I could start it manually, but got a priveledges error with the service that I didn't look into. That was with W2K8 RC0.

Do VMWare know when they will have a release of VirtualCenter ready for install on Windows Server 2008?

At this time the version 2.5.0-84782 of Virtual Center still doesn't work on Windows Server 2008.

It's possible install it with istructions above but at start report this error:

faulting module kernel32.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791a76d,

exception code 0xe06d7363, fault offset 0x000442eb, process id 0x424, application start time 0x01c914f876ba9114.

Has anyone got this to work? Any updates on when this will be supported?

I'm running into this issue (service wont start) also.

I'm using VMware-licenseserver-64192.exe on Windows 2008 SP2.

How are we to manage/license our 3.5 servers now that we are using vSphere???

I think I found the answer here. I'm looking into it. Atleast the License server for the 3.5 clients installed so far. _

For this error

The error is: Error 1920.Service VMware License Server (VMware License Server) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services

Specifically this from that post

Need to download latest VC2.5 iso or zip file and run the vmware-licenseserver.exe from there. It's a different version that the one that you download separately.

I can confirm this resolution. I was having the issue "Error 1920.Service VMware License Server (VMware License Server) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services". This was with the standalone License Server downloaded from VMware's site.

I downloaded the zip for vCenter Update 6, and the installer ("\vpx\VMware-licenseserver.exe") installed cleanly.

Thanks.
