When I press Command and Control key and then I release either of key,
full screen mode will be terminated every time.

Is this known issue?

Mac: MacBook (Intel Core 2 Duo)
OS: Mac OS X 10.5.1
VMWare: 1.1

Thanks.

Cmd + Ctrl is the hard grab/ungrab sequence for VMware Fusion and a hard ungrab will force the virtual machine out of full screen mode.

There is no way I know of to change the hard grab/ungrab sequence.

For future reference, what would you want to change it to and why do you need to change it?

Thanks,

Pat

This is what I did to modify the normal behavior of the Command+Control to not Grab Focus away from the VM in either Full Screen Mode or Windowed.

I added the following to the "/Users/${USER}/Library/Preferences/VMware Fusion/preferences" file.

pref.hotkey.shift = "TRUE"

Note: Even after adding this the message on the Status Bar, "To return to your computer, press Control-Command" shows as normal and does not reflect that the Shift Key Modifier is now a part of the Hot Key Sequence necessary to Grab Focus out of the VM. I do not know what else may be or is affected by adding this entry.

If you modify the preferences file with the above entry you must remember that you have done it. You have been warned! :)

Edit: To clarify, if you added the suggested entry you must press Control+Command+Shift to set focus back to OS X.

Edit 2: Modified previous statement referencing message going into full screen mode.

Edit 3: Sorry about so many edits, I have removed the statement referencing full screen mode message as I'm getting mixed results.

Also making the change suggested requires the Shift Key to be used as a modifier to other default Control+Command Key Sequences.

I modified the pref file as above, and confirmed the pref file change by saving and closing the pref file and shutting down the VM twice to see if the changes took, but I still get the same behavior, while using the shift key to modify gives no result. Am I missing something?

I am using an eval downloaded only a few days ago on a new MacBook Pro running XPsp3. I am using 3D modeling software that uses all of the modifier keyes in many combinations, and use of the the control-cmnd combo by VMware will be intolerable. I would prefer to remap to some complete other combo, preferably letter only such as the MacOS uses when booting to invoke pram reset (I forget what it is but it user to be something like cmnd-p-r), but can make do with the shift modifier.

TIA!

This information I presented was for use with Fusion 1.x and may not work with Fusion 2.x. Also the Virtual Machine must me shutdown, not suspended, and Fusion closed when the edit is made.

Note: I originally took the setting from VMware Workstation.

Correct, this doesn't work in 2.0 due to the keyboard handling rewrite. There is currently no way to override the ungrab sequence in Fusion 2.0. We're looking at ways to bring this customizability back.
