I would like to describe my problems with simultaneous usage of Windows XP Pro in bootcamp AND VMWare fusion. The main problem is the activation mechanism of Windows XP.
I want to use the same copy of Windows in my bootcamp (performance) and as a VM (using unity to run w32 applications).
Scenario:
First, installed WinXP in Bootcamp 1.4 and Activated it via Internet.
Installed VMWare Fusion and started Bootcamp as a VM.
As you all know, Windows needs to be activatd anytime you change more than three components of your hardware. Windows asked for another activation in the VM.
So I had to activate it again in the vm...
After switching to bootcamp and working there for a while, ( no activation needed ) I had to switch to VM again ... and was surprised by the "You'll need to activate Windows in 30 days" message and I'm not working with snapshots or something.
Is there a workaround for this issue or do I have to reactivate Windows every time i switch betweeen VM and Bootcamp? That would make an activation call to microsoft every month.
I thought about using 2 windows hardware profiles ( a: bootcamp , b: fusion ) and choosing the right profile at boot time. I have my doubts about this, since WinXP uses one copy of c:/windows/system32/wpa.dbl to monitor hardware changes.
Well, again if you have any ideas, pease post them. Thanks in advance and best regards.
