VM stuck at 95% om power off

I tried to power off a hanging VM, now the power off itsself hangs at 95% since several hours.

I am on VI3.0.1 using the VC 2.0.1

I tried to ps -ax on the console to see any process with the VM hostname but nothing!

Any idea how to force the power off?

How can I kill a stuck virtual machine?

ESX 3.0 method

o Login to the service console

o You can check the VM state by typing “vmware-cmd /”

o You will be prompted if you want to include a screenshot of the VM, send an NMI to the VM and send a ABORT to the VM, you must answer Yes to the ABORT question to kill the VM. The entire process will take about 5-10 minutes to run. It will create a tar archive in the directory you run it in.

have u tried stopping the VM using the CLI mode.

vmware-cmd stop

as I said for some reason the VM would never appear in any ps I did.

a vmcmd stop did not help as it said another process in taking place...yeah it was trying to power off.

So I used the "alternate method". It indeed stopped the VM, but what do I do with all those files now? can I just delete them? i mean at least for the vswp file...

Yes you can delete all the support files it created. The vswp file is created when the VM is powered on and is deleted when it is powered off. if there is one existing after it is powered off you can delete it. It will create a new one when it powers on again.
