Perhaps this is a good tip for your Doc Team:
On the Ubuntu forum, someone name HymeToLife offered this solution. Before running VMTools, run this command to install the C headers:
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)
After that, I was able to successfully install VMTools on Ubuntu Studio.
By the way, none of the other *Ubuntu 7.0.4 releases required me to install the C headers.
