hi,

I am a newbie to esx. i will appreciate if some one could guide me on how to make a online copy of the instance with snapshot to remote location.Thankx in advance

Do you mean backup the eSX server itself or a VM?

Do you have a VCB license? You'll need it if you want to do file level backups from a VCB proxy.

If you intend to use VCB: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_vm_backup.pdf - Chapter 2

Or if you're not using VCB and want to backup from the service console: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27005205&aid=1

I think you'll also need this enabler if you're using the service console: http://download3.vmware.com/software/vi/tsm-5.2.3-addon.tgz

I was told it's a great product for backing up live ESX VM's.
