Is it possible to have two clusters one with intel and an other with amd, both clusters configured with DRS only. And then joining these two in a cluster with only HA enabled.
Then you would get HA between intel and amd, and DRS only handling it's own cluster.

In theory it shoud work, but in practice you can only configure the HA agent on a cluster, not between clusters. This seems more of a configuration limitation than a technical one, because as you say, DRS requires VMotion compatibility, but HA does not as it's a cold start.

Either way I don't think it's possible to configure it that way at the moment.

Thats an interesting one, thinking about it you could see a requirement for that fairly often..

As Alex say's it should be ok.. Interesting to see though..

too bad! :) Because we could then have used our old intel servers to add more failover capacity in our datacenter.

I hope it will be possible, 'coz it doesn't seem to be all that unrealistic.

Hi pengo,

you can join both the Intel and the AMD boxes in a single cluster and enable both DRS and HA on it (we did thia). Automatic VMotion will of course only work between the same CPU architecture, but you have your whole host capacity available for HA.
