I too have installed Parallels -and "Boot Camp". There seems to be a performance penalty for the Parallels solution (Compared to run WinXP from the dual boot); however, I find that it does quite well for my puposes.
I can listen to iTunes, Check/Compose email, Surf the Web all from the Mac while running a virtual WinXP system that's running a windows only VPN client and remote desktop to control another XP machine. I have my virtual volume backed up such that I can restore without fuss if something in WinXP goes wrong.
If Parallels could utilize vmWare virtual volumes (I haven't tried yet but don't expect it would work) I would move the VM's to the Mac and never look back.
I've found vmWare to be the "leader" in VM's. Performance is great and other features like drag and drop between the VM and Host are really nice.
I'm still pushing for a vmWare desktop/player. I will buy it if/when released.
