Downloaded and installed the latest workstation version 2 days ago.
Messed around with it and decided to un install and do some more reading in preparation for a purchase and install on another machine.
My system is winxp pro sp2 with all current updates. Home user not running anything extra from the os.
During the un install the system froze and re booted. I continued with the un install and thought it went normally after the reboot. I went to reset up my networking configurations and the vmware renamed devices were still installed.
I researched on the forums and in various articles (1803, I believe was one article that sticks in my head) about how to do a manual un-install.
I followed all the procedures in the articles, that were available to me. Including a removal of the registry traces, a reinstall and another removal through the msoft, add/remove procedure.
All this has failed to replace the system to a working state.
What I am left with is a totally empty network connections folder.
all recognized network interfaces are unable to be recognized anywhere except in the device manager, where I can see them.
They can not be updated properly. The update always fails at the last minute.
I can remove the devices, and windows will see them at reboot, but always the reinstall fails.
I am thinking of a complete removal of the tcpip.sys and reinstalling it to the os??
Any thoughts??
Or have any of you veterans of the forums, ever noticed a thread about totally losing the network connections folder?
It is blank, no New Connections Wiz, no Network Setup Wiz, no Local Area Connections, no 1394, Nothing.
It is not a home type of emergency, as a last resort to retrieve data, I can stick the drive in another system.
Just a pain in the patoot, as the OS has no tcpip connectivity...
