Session Title: LAB005: Enterprise Hosted DesktopEnterprise Hosted Desktop[/b]
Speakers:
Michael Burnett, VMware
Andy Nichols, VMware
Puneet Chawla, VMware
Session Abstract:
The Enterprise Hosted Desktop lab will focus on best practices and architectures used to provide centrally-hosted virtual desktops to remote users. The advantages of applying virtual infrastructure concepts of management, scalability, and security to hosted desktops will be explored. Participants will get hands-on experience with VirtualCenter and ESX Server configuration, virtual machine template deployment, and methodologies for providing desktop access to remote users.
Related sessions: SLN138, and SLN116.
Topics: Desktop Platform; ESX Server; VirtualCenter; Hosted
Technical Level: Level 3: Intermediate (Has used VMware for six months or more, but not an expert user)
I give this one the raspberry cheer. Virtual Center 1.2? How about Virtual Center 2.0 beta preview?
I left early. I should have spent my time in ESX troubleshooting II & III instead.
Is there anyway we can get contact information for the 3 presenters? I have some more questions...
Thanks!

I would like to see more comment on real world implementation especially cross contry deployment. Any idea if there is a concept of "many to one" to allow a single hosted desktop served out to multiple users? This would be useful for call center/data entry type users that would have no need to modify a desktop and the desktop would be consisitent among all users.
How can we get hold of the SDK material that was being demonstrated at the lab session? Understand it would not be released as standard offer? Could we even get it for proof of concept? We also anticipate a component being relesased from VMware directly and not needing to rely on Citrix's presentation production.

Many to one mapping is limited on the capabilites of the KVM transport implementation used. It is possible to do it using VMware Remote Console. Microsoft RDP for Windows XP does not allow more than one user login - and for one user only 3 maximum sessions are allowed. Presently the suggested use case is one VM per user.
We presently do not provide the source for the proof of concept. If you have any other questions please send an email to jqurashi AT vmware.com
