Anybody has an idea why VMWare displays this error on Windows 8 Client or Server Install. I check my laptop has Intel Q720 VT Support and BIOS has this enabled as well. My host is running Windows 7 X64.
Does the install complete despite the error? This is sometimes the case if a blue screen does not appear . . A search for this error with Google mostly points to hardware incomptiblity Try installing as admin etc. The only time DPC--Watchdog was thrown (rarely) was in a nested Hyper-V environment when the outer Windows 8 VM threw the error. I beleive I clicked the mouse too rapidly. Windows 8 recovered atutomatically (neat!!) although I occasionaly run chkdsk just in case. Microsoft offers to send the error to the mother ship - I decline Sorry this was not exactly to your question.
Thanks for the quick response. My laptop is Lenovo W510 and I have another
Sr. Microsoft Consultant that has Exact the same laptop running Windows 8 only.
I am running with Windows 7 x64. BIOS has also been set up to use VT.
Do I need to run VMWare Workstation 8 As Admin ? (I have used
Windows 7 x86 with VMWare Workstation v7 installing Windows
Server 2008 without the need to RunAS Admin)
The Install did not complete and I believe I had the Blue Screen. But it just keep
on looping Restart, fail, Restart ....
Thanks for you assistance

Well - I know how to prevent the auto restart of Windows but that will just dispaly the Blue Screen with its nearly impossible data you woo need a cold restrat then. . It is pssobile you could look up the top of the blue screen with the error code and determine if it is hardware related (use the EXACT wording in your Google search box.)
Go to Confrol Panel ==> System => Advancexd ==-> Startup and Recovery ++ -> Settings and unchedk auto restart
Of course this is unlikely to solve your rimmedaite problem. Redownload the .exe for VMwarfe and compare the mdsum to see if its a good file.
I can't go further because I've never encountered this particular insatllation problem. - sorry
Goog luck
I finally figured out the root cause. Since bot Windows 8 and Windows Server (8) 2012 are new and 64 bits, these
do not show up in the drop down list for version if you choose Microsoft Windows. Instead, I chose Other as the Guest
Operating System and Other 64 bit as the version.
Last night, I chose Version as Windows 7 x64 when I install Windows 8 and Version as Windows 2008 R2 when I install
Windows Server 2012. Both installs completed without giving me any problem.
