P2V Error in Workstation 8

Trying to do a p2v conversion in Workstation v8 and keep getting the following error:

A general system error occurred: Crypto Exception: error:02001005:system library:fopen:Input/output error:unable to load C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\ssl\rui.crt

Anyone any ideas??

In Windows Explorer, browse to the folder C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\ssl

When you try to open folder ssl, you will discover that you do not have permission to do so.

Assuming you have administrator privileges:

When you double click to open folder ssl, a pop-up will present a CONTINUE button which, when pressed, will permanently unlock the folder for you and the problem will be solved.

I'm doing this from memory - if I skipped a step in unlocking the folder, the problem is simply that the folder ssl is locked and you need to unlock it.

I am running into this right now on both my desktop running vCenter Converter Standalone Client and on the VM where I installed vCenter Converter Standalone Server. On my desktop the path c:\ProgramData\... exists except the ssl folder was not there at all.   On the server there is no ProgramData folder at all.   Is this an installer fail?  Shouldn't it have created this path and the rui.crt file?

ok,

I have converted  an XP (HP) machine. Once you execute the converter as administrator , you have to disable the firewall on the machine you need to connect.

Then I have been unable to install the agent remotely !

Easiest thing to do is to install it manually directly on the machine to virtualize. Select custom install , then install only the agent.

I succesfully converted the machine from my Win7 desktop , then pushed the VM  it on the iMac (btw, the conversion process did blocked on the iMac).

Solution to the problem you r facing...

Go to C:\PROGRAMDATA\vmware\vmware venter converter standalone\ folder and give full permission to the user account that you are using.

For giving permission go to ssl folder properties > security tab > give full permission to the account u r using to connect (most probably it is a domain admin account). And then again try to run the conversion tool for P2V. it will work...

Cheers... enjoy...

Hmm - at this point we do not even know if those files exist in that case

That does fix this issue. If you look at the permissions after you double-click and select continue, you will see that your user account has been granted full control to the SSL folder.

Has there been any addition information on this error. I am getting the same error mentioned in this thread, the difference being there is no C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\ path. I am running Windows 7 64-bit and the path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Vmware\ VMware vCenter Standalone\. There is no "ssl" folder under this path. I have access to all the folders. The error message is the same that has been reported in this thread: "A general system error occurred: Crypto Exception: error:020001005:system library:fopen:Input/output error: unable to load C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter\Standalone\ssl\rui.crt".

If you've installed the 5.0.1 client on a different machine to the server component then you'll need to create the ssl folder and copy the files from the server's ssl folder. Details here: http://rcmtech.wordpress.com/2013/02/06/vmware-converter-crypto-exception-error-02001005/

Just try to search for rui.crt file under VMware installation forlder drive and open the containing folder then add your user account with full permissions..

For my case I got the file under C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Inventory Service\ssl , after setting the permissions, open Convertor tool "runasadmin" then all works fine..
