Hi,
I have ESX 4.1 there are several VMs.
I want to attached USB HDD with a VM. Kindly let me know that how I can access on VM?
Regards,
Badr.
From what I remember and someone correct me if I am wrong. You can not hook up usb storage to the ESX server and connect it to the VMs. What I would recommend though is hooking up the usb drive to a computer and sharing it from that computer. Then just connect your VM to that share. Hope this helps.
Thanks ProPenguin for your kind suggestion.
Any other person will share about it that how we can use USB on VM even there is USB Controller exisit?
Hi,
You can actually do this in 4.1
Right click on your VM -> Edit Settings and add a USB controller and Map that.
If your VMs are running on Windows 2008 then you can see new Device connected popup.. else you can just rescan devices using device manager.
For windows 2003 you might require a reboot..
Also there were some known issued with the USB controller mapping on 4.1, so also make sure that you have installed Updates 1 and 2..
I always enjoy being corrected, especially when its good news. I am going to remember that for next time.
