Install VMware SVGA 3D (WDDM) on Win XP guest

Hello,

I want to know if it's possible to install the VMware SVGA 3D (like on Win Vista or 7) on Windows XP instead of the SVGA II to be able to use 256 MB VRAM. Does someone know if there's a XP version or if it's in development?

BR,

DeiVadder

"To install a WDDM or XPDM driver go to Control Panel > Device Manager of the installed Windows operating system. To locate the drivers, browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMware\Drivers\wddm_video\ on the hard disk."

I can't find this folder on my VM (only the folder "video"). Maybe it's because I only have the VMware Player. I will try to download the VMware Workstation Trial and then we'll see.

EDIT: Okay, I have installed VMware Workstation, started the VM and reinstalled VMware Tools, but the "wddm_video" folder still doesn't show up.

Is there maybe another version especially for XP that you can download separately?

Since WDDM drivers are not available for Windows XP, they might not get installed. If you want to try anyway, you could copy the drivers from a Windows 7 VM. I'd recommend you create a snapshot before you try to force install the drivers on XP.

There is no VMware SVGA 3D (WDDM) Driver for Windows XP.

The path showing the VMware KB it obviously not correct even though it was last updated Jul 21, 2011.

You can take the "VMware SVGA 3D (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)" drive from a Windows 7 install and install it under Windows XP however while it will install it will Code 39 and not load the driver after installing it.

I don't have time to mess around with it to see if I can workaround whatever is causing it to Code 39 however if you want to play around the driver package from a Windows 7 32-bit install is located at: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\vm3d.inf_x86_neutral_c8eff90b6ad2a2b6

I've tried to install the Win 7 driver, but it didn't work, like I expected.

BTW, Is the XPDM driver similar to the SVGA II?

And, whoever is responsible for developing the SVGA 3D driver, please make a XP version
