ESXi Update Buildnumber

Hello!

i have got an ESXi 4.1 Build 320092. Now i want to install all Update are available. Do i have to install all hotfix on by one or is it possible to install directly the Update 1 and the hotfixes are included in the Update 1?

And on a second ESX 4.1 with U1 i just install the last Hotfix ESXi410-20110400. Everything works fine but the Buildnumber of the ESXi is still the same (348481). Why????

Thanks

You can download an upgrade that will patch to the latest revision and just install that upgrade (it should include cumulative patches)

Where you version number still appears incorrect, it could just be a delay in your VC reflecting the correct number.

Try connect your client directly to the ESX host to see what the actual version that you are running is.

One day I will virtualise myself . . .

You have to refer the release date of the update and patches. Hot fix, patches and other fixes that we went before the U1 release date would available through U1. You can install U1 patches to get all the previous patches/fixes. If you find a patch that are released after U1, then it is better to install latest patches to host. will have all previous patches.

Mainly in ESXi we have 3 patches, Firmware, VMTools and VI client. You have to pick up all the 3 based on the release date to get latest fixes.

Regarding build no, it may not change your did not apply Firmware patches, you might have applied VMtools or VIclient patch or both.

Thanks
