VMWare DPM with HP Proliant DL380G7 problem

Hi all

I've just replaced our DL380G6 servers with DL380G7 machines and I cannot get DPM to configure on the new machines. We are running ESX 4.1 with vCenter 4.1. The configuration page that requires the iLO username, password, ip address and mac address will not accept the details that I provide. The logs on the iLO indicates that a successful XML logon occurs, but the logs for vSphere indicate that the details are incorrect. I've previously set this up on our old DL380G6 servers and had it working correctly, but cannot get it to work on the new G7s. One major difference between the G6 and the G7 server is the old model had an iLO2 and the new model has an iLO3.

Has anyone had any success getting this working on one of HP's new G7 servers?

TIA

Same behaviour with DL 580G7, it seems that iLO 3 is not working internally like iLO2 and vCenter is not capable to manage that.

ESX version 4.1 resolves the problem.

What version of ESX specifically did you get this to work in?

We are trying ILO 3 on DL380 G7, with ESX version 4.1 U1 v381591

Cheers

Worked fine with ESXi 4.1 Update 1. We’ve also detected other problem with the length of username and password, changed to shorter one and worked fine.

Until today I hadn't been able to get this working.  The clue about the shorter password led me to try a few different things again.  I unsuccessfully tried these settings before installing Update 1, but not since.

I was able to use our normal username and password (6 and 8 characters long) as long as I gave the ilo user permission to "Virtual Power and Reset" and "Configure iLO Settings".  It appears that the "Configure iLO Settings" option is the one that made it work for me.

I'm running ESX4.1u1 at the moment.

I had previously tried relaxing the security on the iLo account without success, but it does appear to now work as long as you're prepared to allow the extra security setting on the iLO.

Great thanks for that  - can confirm that works here as well (ie adding "configure ILO settings" rights to the user)

This fixed it for me.
