install mc on ESXi 4.1

Is there a way that I could put my favorite file manager on an ESXi 4.1 host? Cannot install from rpm, as there is no rpm package manager installed.

I know that it is a free edition, but it seems CLI is totaly useless in 4.1.

The kernel of ESXi is not Linux based so you can't install any Linux packages there.  You can compile standalone utilities for use in the console.  The mod shown here adds FTP, a better wget and rsync.

So it means you cannot run powerCLI in it?

I'd recommend you don't install anything on the host itself. If you really need to access files and want to use a file manager, enable SSH (http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1017910) and use WinSCP or any other utility.
