I have installed a windows 2008 R2 server in wmware ESI v4.01 and am having a very slow response to mouse movements within the console. I have installed the latest vmtools. My windows 2000 server vm is mcuh faster. Can anyone suggest a solution to improving my problem.
Thanks
You may want to make sure that your vmtools are up to date.
SeaCros
please send the details of VM , with version details and spcification of RAM ,CPU,CORES, and details of windows 2008 version ,
Thread moved to ESXi forum.
Have you installed the VMware Tools?
PS: the console is not the best choice to remote management. Enable Remote Desktop and use it.

I've had the same (painful) issues. Have you tried the WDDM driver?
If you are on virtual hardware v7 and use the WDDM driver the mouse should be fixed and be smooth as glass.
Ben
increase the memory of service console for better peroformance
it's referring to the console of VM and i do not think that it is any help of service console memory. and i do not think ESXi has service console memory anymore.
RDP is the preferred choice, and maybe you could increase your VGA memory and see if that helps.
We´ve excperienced the same issue. We did the changes that BenConrad linked to, so follow that kb and you´ll be fine with 2k8 servers again ..
Or here is the link we used, not exactly the same linked to before, still think its the same though:

It is the driver as others have stated.
Is your Windows 2008 R2 virtual server suffering from choppy, clunky, jerky movements? Trying to line up the mouse correctly on the screen but are not able too? Are you getting frustrated on how slow the response is from the virtual console?
I have just the answer you have been looking for.
The VMWare tools is not installing the correct driver for video processing. In this case you will need to update the driver manually as well as increase the amount of video ram assigned to the VM.
According to VMware KB article 1016770 the WDDM driver is installed by default with Windows 7. However with Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2 and Vista, it is not installed by default but still supported.
How much would you say this tidbit is worth? $500? $400? $300? NO. If you act now you get this for nothing. That’s right, you read it “NOTHING”.
So hurry and log in to your nearest Virtual Center client and start updating today.
