I just built a server using a supermicro motherboard (MBD-X8DAH+-O) and the supermicro 2U chassis (CSE-825TQ-R700LPB).
I installed an adaptec 2244100-R controller...
And 8 western digital hds...
Everything installed without a hitch. I created a 10TB raid using the drives and I installed esxi 4.1 fresh from the website onto a usb stick and booted off of that. I created a 500GB datastore and created a 20GB vm on it without a problem what so ever. When I tried to upload an iso to the data store, about 2 minutes into the upload, I get a pink screen of death talking about all this corruption error stuff. I attached a screen shot.
Are you using the free license for ESXi (now called vSphere Hypervisor) or do you have a license for it? It is usually easiest to upload the dump to VMware for analysis as they can go through it and find out what caused it. Most of the time the issue is caused by hardware, so I would check and confirm that all of the hardware that you're using is on the supported Hardware Compatibility List.

I'm using the free but I do have a purchased esxi license key. I don't understand why not having a purchased license key would cause this. I've had other esxi servers in the past not do this and they used a free license key. How do I get to the core dump?
Having the license key really has nothing to do with the purple screen or the crashing. My only point in bringing it up was that you wouldn't be able to call for support if you were using the free license. If you own a license for vSphere you can call and pay per incident for the support and they can help analyze the crash dump for you.

I did a bios update and it worked fine.
