I have just started using VMware Player 3.1 under Windows 7 64-bit, and I would greatly appreciate answers to the following questions:
The new Unity mode is a very cool feature. Nevertheless: Is it possible to integrate applications installed on a Windows VM (e.g., one running Windows XP) directly into the host's start menu so that you do not have to start the Player first before you can launch the application?
Is it possible to configure applications installed on the guest OS so that they can be evoked by clicking on an associated file in an Explorer window of the host OS?
How can I move an entire, existing VM to a different directory or drive of the host system?
Thanks,
Andreas

You can make a shortcut on the host that runs an app in a guest, that's a feature that we added to unity in Player 3.1 and Workstation 7.1. It's the "and also open this file in the app" part that we don't support right now.
You can make your own shortcuts to guest apps, although we don't automatically fill in the host's Start menu like XP Mode does. See the section "Create
Virtual Machine Application Shortcuts on the Host in Unity Mode" in the Workstation user manual for the details (it works the same in Player as in Workstation).
We don't currently support shortcuts that open a document on the host in an app in the guest, although you can set this up yourself by putting the document in a shared folder, which will let the guest access the file.<!-- BEGIN attachments -->

Right - but I was thinking of doing it just the other way round: When working on the host system, is it possible to create a shortcut on the host that opens a document in an application running on a virtual machine (i.e., the shortcut would have to point to the application in the VM)? If this is not possible with the Player, does it work in the Workstation edition?

Was there supposed to be an attachment to your last message?
