I do not know if this will help give you any additional information that you don't already have however I'd though I'd mention it and then you can see if there is any additional information in the .log file to help troubleshoot. With the Virtual machine shutdown, not suspended, and the VMware product closed then add the following line to the target Virtual Machine's .vmx configuration file and then run the Virtual Machine and repeat the actions taken to generate the original error and then shutdown the target Virtual Machine and review the .log file.

Error message 4 popsup when the vmusb.sys driver fails to enumerate existing USB-devices.

To fix it enumerate USB-devices yourself by manually adding missing entries in this key :HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}
