Retrieve License Information posted: Nov 6, 2009 6:50 AM

Can anyone tell me how to retrieve the license key from our ESXi 3.5? Our vCenter is our licensing server. I need to identify the actual license key to see which network it's being used on. I know in the licensing tab you can see how many are used and how many are still available but that's not helping me. The key is what I need to be able to view.

Thanks.

You should be able to log into your account on the VMware website here and look up your license key.

A license server hands out keys to clients as requested, so day to day, the key being used bya given host could move.

If you need to separate it, you need to run 2 license servers.

You weren't clear what you wanted - you wanted to know how to figure out which host was using what, not what you licenses are. To find you licenses.

You need the following file from your license server (assuming you are running <3.5):

c:\Program Files\VMware\VMware License Server\Licenses\vmware.lic

3.5 didn't use 'keys' per se, but these licenses in this format.

if you are running 4.0, you can see the key on the Licensed Features page of the Configuration Tab for the host.
