Hi,

We are trying to migrate a VM to another host on the same cluster but when we click migrate all options (change host,change datastore etc) are greyed out. I tried to disable and reenable vmotion on both two hosts but nothing changed. I uploaded the screenshot of the migration menu. host1->host2 migration fails but host2->host1 migration works successfully.

Hosts can ping their "VMkernel","Service Console" and "Service Console 2" ip adresses.

(Note: Both 2 hosts are EVC mode enabled.)

Have you licensed both hosts?

Yes,they are both licensed.

One host is licensed with Advanced License,

other host is licensed with Enterprise license.

I attached summary tab of the hosts.

I'm not sure about your cpu.

Host1 has Xeon 7300 Series CPU and Host2 has Xeon 7400 Series CPU.

Accoring to pdf you have posted, EVC Mode "Intel Xeon Core2" supports both 7300 and 7400 Series CPUs.

We are already using EVC mode "Intel Xeon Core2" , there is no problem with EVC mode.

OK I was not 100% sure!

Well thats a strange thing, have you .e.g. tried to use a different vmkernel port or a different vswitch?

Now I tried another VMkernel port and another vswitch on both 2 hosts but noting changed.

Now there are 3 VMkernel port on each host.

VMkernel1 and VMkernel2 are on vSwitch0,

VMkernel3 is on vSwitch1,

I tried all 3 VMkernel ports seperately.

all Vmkernel ports has different ip adresses,both 2 hosts can ping each others VMkernel ports. There is no problem with network connectivity.

Yes Vmotion is enabled.

Vcenter allows only 1 "Vmotion Enabled" VMkernel port at the same time.

I tried all 3 VMkernel ports one by one.

still same.

HI,

Can you post some detail on your network config? an image perhaps.

Also have you confirmed ip connectivity on your vmotion network? are you using a dedicated vMotion network?

-No, we are not using a dedicated Vmotion network." VMkernel" and "Service console" ports are connected to vswitch0. (vSiwtc0 is directly connected to vmnic0)


I have exact the same network configuration(with 1 VMkernel port) on another cluster with 3 hosts and everything is fine.

By the way, I created VMKernel2 and VMkernel3 for troubleshhoting this issue. Now I'm removing them.

Yes we have resolved the issue. We arranged a webex session with vmware support and followed this steps.

1- Disabled and re-enabled vmotion (this did not work)
2- Removed the failing host (host1 in this case)
3- Added host1 to the cluster again,reconfigured HA.

That's what I was afraid you were going to say. There's a few VMs on the offending host that I'd rather not have to shutdown but to take it out of the cluster I need to have it in maintenance mode, to have it in maintenance mode I need to move the VMs off it or shut them down. I can't move them obviously so that means shutting them down.

Unless you're aware of an alternative? Were all your hosts running the exact same build?
