Hi
I am trying to import a physical machine into the virtual environment using the convertor plugin within Virtual Center and each time I try to change the disk size I get the below error.
Microsoft visual c++ runtime error
Runtime Error!
VpxClient.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. please contact the application's support team for more information.

I don't try to convert the disk size then the import wizard continues and the import starts.

I am running Virtual Center 2.5 update 2 with the latest VI client.

Does anyone have an idea why this might be happening?
Thanks

Hello.

I've the same problem.

I'm running VC 2.5 (with ESX 3.5 U2) on Windows XP SP3 French version.

I've already tried to change TEMP and TMP variables path with no effect.

To perform P2V, I've completed the operation with VMWARE converter standalone.

What happened with Virtuel Center ?

Thanks

sorry to bump an old post, but lately i've been having the same problem when P2V'ing servers with the converter enterprise plugin.

unsure if the problem started occuring before or after i upgraded to VC2.5 update 4 a couple weeks ago.

attached the version numbers of converter enterprise i'm using, and when the error message occurs (clicking next on that screen).

all servers are english language.
any ideas? thanks.

update

ran the conversion as a local admin account on the target and not a domain account that is in the local admin group on the server...and it works.

I had this same error and found two different ways to fix it:

1) Use monderick's method and create/use a local admin account

2) Delete any network connections to the physical server you are trying to import and re-run the Import wizard

a. Open Command Prompt

b. Identify the connections to remove by running:>net use

c. Remove the connections to the server by running:>net use \ \<servername>\IPC$ /del

(remove spaces between \ \)

d. Re-run Import Wizard and import the physical server

I have the same problem on VSpere. When I click on next after the disk size options it crashes

This is a big problem for us. It is on new Intel Neharlem CPU's . We have 2 other VSphere Dell m1000 invironmets running on AMD with out any problems.

What could be the problem here ?

It would have been more helpful to have more descriptive error messages.

The "C++ Runtime Error" is just a default message for tons of different errors and gives you no clue what so ever about the source of the problem. Currently it is sometimes easier to use procmon on windows hosts to trace the errors (and study logs).

It looks like the problem is on the vCenter Server side. All the clients from different PC's crash with this error if you point it to the vCenter on the Intel CPU. When you log into the vCenter running on the AMD platform all is OK and you can import the machines with no problems. All the patches have been loaded on both systems. This is very frustrating as we have other problems with the Intel CPU as well. Can sombody tell me were the logs are that I should have a look at?

Thanks

We have been experimenting same error with a four cores virtual machine running in a ESXi 3.5 we need to pass to a vSphere 4 environment. We solve it reducing the number of cores to two in the source machine. (Yes, very frustrating).

José Gabriel.

hello jaco

i have the same problem . but i have to know did you mean that you don't have problem when you run the plugin on amachine running the vsphere client with amd platform or the vcenter machine itself lies on an amd platform.

best regards

jacky
