DHCP question: replacing vmnet-dhcpd daemon

Hi there,

I'd like to know, please, if the Fusion daemon vmnet-dhcpd (which seems to be ISC dhcpd version 2) can be replaced with another DHCP server daemon running on the OS X, like a more recent version of dhcpd (versions 3 or 4, which allows for custom dhcp options) or dnsmasq, or Mac OS X Server DHCP service.

I made several tests with Linux guests (running dhclient or dhcpcd) on various versions of Fusion in Leopard and Snow Leopard hosts, having first disabled the vmnet-dhcpd and run the replacement DHCP daemon, but it does NOT work: I'm stuck in an endless DHCP DISCOVER loop.

So I wonder whether the vmnet-dhcpd is a somewhat modified, "non-standard" DHCP daemon...

Many thanks in advance,

Emiliano.
