I would like to see a feature to uninsatll VMware Tools from the VM pull down menu just as the menu item to install them (or upgrade them) exists now. This would be clearer than having to uninstall directly from the guest. The new WS version could detect whether the guest is Windows or Linux and setup the correct uninstall script or program without the user having to do so directly from the guest. This would avoid inexplerienced users from having to consult the online help to figure out how to uninsatll the tools. I don't know whethe the "return from coding effort" would be worthwhile however

Need to have some more back buttons.

EX when you locate your vm and click on a feature the only way to go bak on the screen is click Home or use your browser mobile back button but some times those are harder to use and if there was a intergreated back button on the screen it would be easier.

Just out of curiosity why would you want to unistall the vmware tools. Since it contains all of your advanced drivers and important vmware software features I would think unistalling it would not be in your best interest. I could be wrong that is why I ask to see in your experience why have you had the need to uninstall the tools? In my opinion my inexplerienced users should not have or get the ability to unistall the tools as they are usually the ones who would not know what the benifits and issues are in dooing so, and I would have to have a pretty good reason to unistall this software. Think of it this way would you want someone inexplerienced going in to your nic card drivers and unistalling the latest drivers? What would that do to your production enviroment? So if you have seen admins uninstalling your VM's vmtools software I would read up more on whats in that software pack because if you are using those features and or relying on it unistalling it could cause major issues on your system.

Actually I mujst 'confess" that I was using a tool to convert VMware virtual machines (.vmdk virtual disk format) to Hyper-V virtual machines (.vhd virtual disk format). I am evaluating both virtualization solutions. If one converts a VMware Virtual Machine with VMware Tools already installed they cannot be uninstalled within in the converted Hyper-V VM (at leawst I could not with a Windows 7 guest). . So in fact it might not be in VMware's best interest to provide a easy uninstall featuer. Naturally howeverf VMware Inc. busniness needs might not totally coincide with mine <grin> However the current "debate" about downloading the tools and questions aboujt teh "upgrade" VMware Tools could presently in the beazt be of some use.

I knew something had to be up with your request. We have a trader I see. LOL JK. I am a vmware partner and I am fully confident if you fully evaluate both vmware and microsoft solutions and compare apples to apples both solutions (Including cost PER APPLICATION COST THAT IS) you will be fully vmware soon enough and your need to unistall the tools would no longer exist. Feel free to contact me anytime and I would be happy to explain why I believe vmware is your best solution james@jcdataconsulting.com

Is there a reason that only the vCMA management page is running over SSL and not the actual vCMA page we use to connect to vCenter? I know my mobile connection is encrypted, but what about that data when it hits my network. Isn't it transmitting my password in plain text? I assume people just need to be smart enough to install their own cert and turn on SSL, but not all people know how to do that.

The only reason is because we can't install a CA-signed cert for the user, and because on some devices self-signed certs are totally dropped on the floor and the entire request gets dropped. We put the cert procedure in the doc and it is around on the forums here. Short of badging the UI in some way, that's the best we've come up with at this point.

That sounds good to me. Only problem is I can't find it. In another thread, you mentioned this... http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-9741 ...but I can't find anything in there about setting up a cert and SSL (it's possible I just missed it). I little more forum searching and I found this thread (http://communities.vmware.com/thread/200816?tstart=15) so I'm going to give that a try. My problem is that I'm not very familiar with tomcat and certs, but that thread seems to give what I need. Thanks.

The ability to kick off orchestrator jobs. Then, I can build what ever feature or function that I need into orchestrator and we don't need a wish list, other than perhaps some screen scrapes from the console.

A feature I would really like to see is the ability to configure the networks settings. I know how to do it manually and going through the terminal settings, but it would be nice to be able to have a GUI that allows me to shutdown the DHCP server or change the IP Range. I really like how I can run 3.0 in 64bit mode in Snow Leopard.

Thanks for all the upgrades so far!

I would like some way to identify buttons. They are very small and it would be very easy to put a server into maintenance mode or shut down a VM. I would like to see a HELP text link with icon descriptions or an alternate dropdown menu with text. This isn't going to be the primary access to the datacenter and in a crisis you don't want to guess. Bad old eyes in a dimly lit room.
