Lock Down of 3.1.2 Client

Hello All....

Just installed so I'm pretty green... I have everything working okay so far but would like to lock down the client as I have a locked down desktop in a kiosk type setting. I have reviewed the GPO policies (loaded them into AD) but might be missing something. Ideally can I set it so once in the VM that tool bar along the top is just not displayed? Also after the initial login you get a second screen prompting which machine you would like to connect and also for a Display setting (Full Screen, Multi mon, Window) can I do away with that screen some how as all my User - to VM's are a 1 to 1 relationship so user A always logs into machine A etc....

Thank you everyone

Hi, I am no expert as I have only setup my environment about 4 months ago. I have learnt a lot from this forum and some great people on here have really pointed me in the right direction If you want to disable the bar at the top you need to 'disable the shade'. This is available in - Start - Run - gpedit.msc - User Configuration - Admin Templates - VMWare View Client Configuration - Enable the shade - Disable. This will completely remove it. If you want the shade to remain but auto hide then you need to adjust (same GPO area) - Pin The Shade - Disabled, Enable The Shade - Enabled. If you want to automatically configure pool settings, display setting then you need to adjust the following in GPedit.msc - User Configuration - Admin Templates - VMWare View Client Configuration - Scripting Definitions - DesktopName to Select & Desktop layout. While I have said use GPEdit.msc for local group policies you would need to select your policies within your domain as you normally would, locations should remain the same.

Word of warning if you do disable the shade, I have found a bug which I have reported to VMWare which they have acknowledged. If you enable MMR (Multimedia redirection, enabled by default) with the shade disabled it closes down the client with certain videos. I have a way around it, if you are interested I will let you know how I did it.

I hope this helps you out. Good Luck!

An answer to your second question: Yes

You'll have to do it via command line usage:

C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware View\Client\bin>wswc /?

or

After the inital connection a user can select on the tool bar under Options -> Auto-Connect this Desktop
