Hi,

Here is my environment:

Machine: HP DC5800 with Intel Quad core CPU at 2.5 GHz and 8 GB RAM

Host OS: Windows Server 2008 Ent 64 bit (Version 6.0 , Build 6001 , SP1)

VMware Server 2.0.1 (Build 156745)

I am trying to install Windows server 2008 both standard and R2 but I keep getting the attached error message upon virtual machine startup

Note: I have already tried supplying the OS in ISO format and using direct DVD drive as well

Regards

Hi,

Have you enabled VT settings in your host BIOS? If not you have to do it.
You have to enable "trusted execution" (if it is present in your BIOS).
You have to make cold restart after this.

J.

According to CPU details you gave - I think you have Q9300.

VT allows you to run different virtual systems on your physical machine. Check this.

Here is Guest Operating System Installation Guide and compatibility guide. I think it'll answer your questions.
(I don't know what do you mean by "new version of Windows").

J

Windows 7/Server 2008R2 are almost the same as Vista/2008, and have almost the same core, therefore you can run WS2k8R2 as WS2k8 without any problems.
