Hi sir,

I want to create a vmmark environment and follow the official document "VMwareR VMmar Benchmarking Guide VMmark 1.1.1" to do, but I met a issue on page 54.

To make this client system part of the mail server virtual machine's domain (page 54)

1 On the client system, open the Start menu, and select Control Panel > System.

2 Select the Computer Name tab.

3 Click the Change button.

4 Under Member of select the Domain radio button.

5 Enter the domain name that you used when you created the mail server domain. This will be the short

name for the mail server (see "Hosts Files" on page 19 for an example).

My domain name of the mailserver0 is "mycompany.com" (Is it right?) so its log name is "mailserver0.mycompany.com". I don't understand what domain name I should add to the client system.

I refer to the Hosts File on page 19, the long name of the client system is "client0.mailserver0.mycompany.com" but I only can add the domain "mycompany.com". So the long name of the client system is "client0.mycompany.com". It seems wrong? (Please see attached files)

Would you please help to solve this issue? Thanks!

Hi,

How many domains you have, one? or you have created a subdomain one "mailserver0"

If you have created the secondary domain, make sure the primary DNS settings on your client point to your new domain.

Looks like that you created domain mycompany.com and made sub-domain mailserver0, instead of make create domain mailserver0.mycompany.com from the beginning and add client there.

mailserver0.mycompany.com - is client of domain, not a domain. You need or create a domain mailserver0.mycompany.com, or in DNS rules make mailserver0.mycompany.com as domain.

Tobias is correct. See p. 91 in the Benchmarking Guide 1.1 for promoting mailserver0.mycompany.com to be a domain server. Then once mailserver0.mycompany.com is its own domain, add client0 to the mailserver0.mycompany.com domain so that client0's fully qualified name becomes client0.mailserver0.mycompany.com.
