I have been searching for info concerning best practices when deploying SQL on VM. We already have a couple of light weight SQL servers in production running 2008 x64 and SQL 2005. We are looking to migrate more databases from existing physical servers to a newly deployed 2008 x64 SQL VM, I have been unable to find documents from Vmware and have turned to the forum for and info. These arent giant databases - things such as BES, EPolicy and other mundane but necessary databases. Do most still divide the drives to seperate the logs, sys and databases? Any advice would be appreciated.

For virtualization practice using Hyper-V you can read here the benchmark: http://www.sqlmag.com/Article/ArticleID/99281/sql_server_99281.html

Or this one: http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/9/4/d948f981-926e-40fa-a026-5bfcf076d9b9/SQL2008inHyperV2008.docx

then, about the Vmware, see this one if you have the access to the experts-exchange.com (at least you can register for trial access): http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/VMWare/Q_23151705.html

Hope this will be useful.
