Hello:

AMM, I am just an Engineers, and do some test work about the vmware VI3 or VI4 software. Now, I have a customer who has an application needs a 4T space.

But, in my Laboratory I do not have such large storage. So is there any body or any good guys have all ready yet done the test which is about the lun large than 2T in the new software vSphere4? Please just tell me the results.

Or there some body could give the step by step configuration,it will be much useful.

I have looked for the topic about these things in the community, some one say could, some one say the 2T limited is still. Can some body give me an exact answer.

If you need to exceed the 2 terabyte limit of a VMFS partition, you'll need to present the LUN inside the virtual machine. If you have an iSCSI SAN, it is easy to do this by simply using the software initiator inside the guest to present the larger LUN.

Unfortunately an RDM won't work either as that has the same 2TB limit as a VMFS partition.

The exact answer would be "the limit is 2TB-512bytes".

Hello,

Moved to ESX 4 forum.

Joerg has the correct answer. THe extra 512bytes used by vSphere has already caused some issues with migrations so if you are going to migrate you need to ensure the RDM/VMFS is properly sized.

If you are using iSCSI I recommend you to take a Starwind target for it. I use for myself for long time already, and it`s very robust, according to my lab test. The only limit of free version it`s 2 Tb limit, what can be a trouble in your case, but I would recommend it to ypu anyway.

Tim.
