Fusion 2.0.4 (159196) driver installation error: TPAutoConnSvc.exe posted: Jul 3, 2009 6:33 AM

I've been getting this for a couple weeks now and finally got around to posting it. When Windows Vista launches in my Mac Fusion installation, I get the following error:
"Interactive services dialog detection
A program can't display a message on your desktop"

The program details says:
Message TItle: Driver Installation Error
Program path: c:\Program Files\VMWare\VMWare Tools\TPAutoConnSvc.exe

I searched the forums and elsewhere but haven't found anything helpful.

Any ideas what's causing this and what I can do to fix it? I do not recall what if anything I installed that initiated this...

Hi there

Fusion's up to 2.0.5. Perhaps try the installing latest version and it's associated Tools package in the Vista and see if the issue persists.

Elements of the VMware Tools can conflict with certain third-party drivers. These conflicts are often corrected in subsequent versions of Fusion. To correct the issue, try this:

1. Use the "Add/Remove Programs" Control Panel to uninstall VMware Tools
2. Shutdown the VM
3. Download and install Fusion 2.0.5 at http://www.vmware.com/download/fusion/
4. Restart your VM
5. You should be prompted to install the current version of VMware Tools (If not, select "Install VMware Tools" from Fusion's "Virtual Machine" menu).
6. Restart your VM after the Tools installation has completed.

Thanks to those of you who have replied.
Before I uninstall and upgrade, I wanted to ask if that process will preserve state or if that will require re-installation of Windows and all my software and data.

The VM itself should not be affected. The process listed only installs the updated VMware Fusion software and then the Tools into your already created VM.

Other than the VMware Tools update, no data should be affected on your VM.

Please remember that it is always recommended to back up your data when doing any type of upgrade. You can backup you VM from the finder by right-clicking on the .vmwarevm file and selecting "Duplicate". Once the update is complete and you've confirmed that everything is working, you can delete the backup.
