I did some searching around here and couldn't find anything on this subject. I have a virtual machine running on an ESX 3i 3.5 host with a 30 GB C: drive, which it doesn't need. I'd like to resize it to about 15 GB, and I used to be able to do this with the old Converter version 3 but I don't see the option in 4. This is a Windows 2008 Server so I can't just reinstall 3 and do it because 3 doesn't work with Windows 2008.

So what do I do? Is there a way to resize this thing without rebuilding it completely?

Converter 3.0.3 can resize Windows basic disks.
Just power off the VM, and specify virtual infrastructure as your source.

Thanks for the reply. I did this but there was no option to export to an ovf/ova file. I could only make it a VMware workstation file. That worked but after I imported it into the ESX host it keeps going into suspended mode and shutting down.

Why would VMware remove the resize option in version 4 of the converter?

Resizing is still there. (At least on the standalone version.) It's now a liitle later in the wizard, on the "View/Edit Options" after you select the destination.

It shows me the size of the virtual hard drive, but does not allow you to change it. I tried right clicking everywhere and there are no options that I can see. See attachement for visual.

This was an attempt with a virutual appliance (OVA) file as you can see listed to the right of Destination under the tabs.

exactly... I don't believe you can resize if you are using a .ova as your destination. Can you not choose another destination other than .ova to see if you have the options to resize?

Apparently you cannot resize when destination is a OVA. For Workstation/Server/ESX/etc type VM, resize option is available. Perhaps because resizing has to make a new VMDK, whereas OVA has to "package" the existing VMDK.(?)
