VMware Server 2 - Accessing host Files

I've created datastores with VMware Server 2 and they have been created fine.
I'm not sure though how to access these from the virtual machine (a WinXP Pro Client).

I try to just access shares on the computer normally but these dont work.
I also tried to ftp to the host machine and this failed (host machine is Windows 7 Ultimate - basically same as Vista).

Wondering if someone can give me some step by steps on how to do this as I've been trying to do it all evening/afternoon with no luck.

Thanks

What is the network settings (bridged, nat or hostonly) that you have chosen for your virtual machines? Does your host operating system have any firewall rules enabled? Are you able to ping your virtual machine from your host?

It's a bridged network. It has a bunch of rules but I'm not too sure exactly what they all are (only just put on Win7 and not fully sure how it works yet).
Do I just need to check rules for the VM network connection or what?
I cant ping it no :(

similar/same problem here - vmware server 2, bridged networking

vista x64 host (static ip), win xp pro guest (DHCP)

I am unable to access shares between the host and guest. However, the other computers on my network can access both the host and guest shares.

ok, so i think i have fixed my issue:

there seem to be a host NIC setting (TCP / UDP Checksum Offloading) that must be disabled for accessing shares between the host and guest:

More info here at the bottom:

http://communities.vmware.com/message/702003

and described in more detail here:

http://cs.rthand.com/blogs/blog_with_righthand/archive/2007/10/16/Peculiar-problem-involving-Windows-2003_2C00_-VMWare-Server_2C00_-SQL-Server-2005-and-networking.aspx

i had to reboot the host also.

hope this helps you as well:)

it seems strange that this problem has not been fixed yet as it has been around for years, maybe there is something else i am missing??
