Hi,

I'm new to VMware workstation, and I have a question regarding the Replay capability.

I understand that Replay can be used with VS for debugging C/C++ programs, but that assumes that you have have the source for the original program. Can Replay be used in situations where you do not have the original source code?

Thanks,

Jim

Hi, Jim. Anything can be recorded and replayed! Only if you want to do source-level debugging with Visual Studio will you need the source. Have fun! E.

Hi, Jim. Oh, I see. I would expect that replay-based debugging in Visual Studio w/o source would work as well as normal debugging in Visual Studio w/o source (but I have to admit that I haven't done it). I don't foresee any fundamental issues preventing this (although there may be some performance issues).

Concerning plugins for tools like OllyDbg... Big companies don't like to talk about the future, so I can't say. But I suspect even Visual Studio could be useful for you.

Let us know how it goes. See you. E.
